Show Notes

Today we have another episode where it is just me talking about a quote that I found to be extremely helpful in my coaching. Today's quote is from a coach who I really liked and followed through the years, and anytime I could read something from him or see him on TV, I was all over it. The coach is Pat Riley. He was the basketball coach for the Los Angeles Lakers during the Magic Johnson "Showtime" era. He coached a couple of other NBA teams after that, and he has been the general manager of the Miami Heat for about twenty years. He is one of the most successful people in the history of the NBA in a variety of realms.
I believe the quote comes from his book "The Winner Within," which I absolutely loved and used so often throughout my career. The quote is this: "Commitment to team - there is no such thing as in-between. You are either in or out." Oh my gosh, how many times have you team sport coaches said something along these lines to your teams about the concept of commitment and how critical it is to have a team-first attitude to create the success you seek?
Check out the episode to hear more ideas on this quote. I also mention in the episode my book "Senior Salute" filled with quotes (this one among them) to help senior athletes move on into the next steps of their journey.
