Today we continue the series discussing the building blocks of John Wooden's "Pyramid of Success" and a variety of quotes in support of them. We are into block #12, and it's the final block on the third tier of the pyramid. This one is devoted to the characteristic of Team Spirit.
Wooden said the third tier is the "heart" of the Pyramid. While he certainly could have meant that it is right in the middle, I get the feeling that he also meant that these three blocks - Condition, Skill, and Team Spirit - are essential to people sustaining their success, just like your heart is essential to you staying alive.
Team Spirit is one of my favorite concepts in the pyramid. I have coached "team sports" for my entire career, and I have always tried to get my teams to buy into the concept of team spirit. When players "give up the me for we," it is amazing what can be accomplished, and it is amazing how much fun teams have together in pursuit of their team goals.
You will hear four quotes in today's episode. They are not from anyone we have ever quoted before on the podcast, yet they really show the importance of having a team spirit.
